Yes, a Montana fishing license is required. You can purchase one online or at a local retailer. We recommend buying your license in advance to avoid delays on the day of your trip.
Montana’s weather can shift fast - calm and sunny one moment, windy and drizzling the next. That’s why we recommend dressing in comfortable layers you can add or shed as needed. A moisture-wicking shirt under a fleece or light jacket, topped with a rainproof shell, will keep you ready for anything the day throws at you. Even if the forecast says sun, bring rain gear - weather on the river has a mind of its own.
Sunscreen is a must, even on cloudy days. The Montana sun at high elevation can be surprisingly intense. We also recommend a wide-brimmed hat or ball cap and polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes and help you see into the water. If we’re planning a walk-and-wade trip, waders and boots are essential. Let us know ahead of time - we can advise based on the rivers and the season.
We keep a few extra rain jackets and pants on hand in case you forget something, but it’s always best to come prepared with gear that fits well and keeps you dry and comfortable. And please, skip the jeans and cotton - they get heavy and cold when wet. If you have questions about what to bring, reach out. We’re happy to help you get dialed in for your best day on the water.
Gratuity is not included. While never required, tipping is a long-standing tradition in guided fly fishing. A 20–25% tip is customary for a job well done and a thoughtful way to show appreciation for your guide’s hard work, expertise, and effort to make your day on the water unforgettable.
Yes, you’re welcome to bring alcohol. We just ask that you drink responsibly.
We understand that sometimes plans change. If you need to cancel your trip, here’s how it works:
•Cancellations made 90 or more days before your scheduled trip date are eligible for a full refund of your deposit, minus any credit card processing fees.
•Cancellations made with less than 90 days’ notice will only be refunded if we are able to rebook your guide for the same date. Otherwise, the deposit will be forfeited.
•Cancellations made within 7 days of your trip, or failure to show up, will result in the full trip amount being charged.
We know unexpected things happen and we will always do our best to work with you when possible. For full details, please review our Refund and Cancellation Policy.
